FilmRise hires BBCS alum Jim Brown to head digital distribution, programming

New York-based studio and streaming network FilmRise has appointed BBC Studios alum Jim Brown as director of digital distribution and programming.

Jim Brown

In his new role Brown, who was formerly the director of content sales and distribution at BBC Studios, will be charged with growing FilmRise’s digital distribution operation by licensing content to third-party AVoD and FAST platforms.

Reporting to Daniel Gagliardi, VP of digital distribution and business development, he will also work closely with the company’s sales team, oversee contract negotiations and monitor key performance metrics.

Brown arrives at FilmRise after spending eight years with BBC Studios’ content sales team. During that time, he licensed content to AVoD, SVoD and linear platforms and worked with outlets such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Criterion Channel, BritBox and Ovation.

Before that, he was the director of operations at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he was part of the team that launched and managed the WWE Classics SVoD business unit.

FilmRise’s senior VP, head of content sales, Melissa Wohl, said Brown’s experience in licensing to and negotiating with streamers will be an asset in achieving the company’s growth objectives.

“His background with niche content and specialty streamers is going to be incredibly valuable with our extensive library of genre programming,” said Wohl.
