Fifth Season documentary chief Kevin Iwashina exits after ‘collective decision’

Kevin Iwashina has resigned from his role as head of documentary at global studio Fifth Season.

His departure is understood to be related to the way he has communicated verbally with colleagues. The news was first reported by Deadline and subsequently confirmed to C21 by sources.

In an internal statement, Iwashina said: “I have always been committed to my work and this company and with it comes a deep passion and a commitment to excellence. Unfortunately, I am sometimes blinded by my drive and I verbalise things I soon regret.

“With more thoughtful perspective, I understand how on occasion my words can range from creating discomfort to being received as aggressive. I have worked diligently on this issue during my years at this company, with professional help, but have not yet been able to attain a satisfactory result for anyone involved, including, most importantly, myself.”

The note continued that Iwashina, alongside Fifth Season co-CEOs Graham Taylor and Chris Rice, “collectively decided” that his resignation was the best course of action.

Iwashina, who served as senior VP of documentary, joined Fifth Season (fka Endeavor Content) when it was launched in 2017. Before that he was an agent with CAA and WME and was also the co-founder and CEO of Preferred Content, which he set up in 2010.
