Female-driven dramas lead Beta slate

Zero One Film copro Bauhaus – A New Era

Germany’s Beta Film is packing a number of dramas for MipTV next week, including female-driven series Perfect Life and Bauhaus, both of which are in the running for the Canneseries awards.

Bauhaus – A New Era is coproduced by Zero One Film with Germany’s ZDF/Arte, Constantin Television and Nadcon Film, and stars Anna Maria Mühe and August Diehl.

The six-hour series, directed by Lars Kraume, revolves around a young woman who becomes a disciple of the revolutionary Bauhaus movement, exploring what happens when she falls in love with the movement’s founder, Walter Gropius.

Perfect Life is a dramedy following three very different women aged over 30 who find their seemingly settled lives turned upside down. Leticia Dolera stars and directs, with Spain’s Movistar+ producing.

Also from Movistar+ comes What the Future Holds, directed by Mariano Barroso. It tells the story of a man who looks to make his fortune in Barcelona to save his mother.

Other shows on the slate include the reboot of Hudson & Rex, the crime procedural produced by Shaftesbury, Pope Productions and Beta Film for Canada’s Rogers/City TV. The show follows a police detective and his hardworking German shephard dog.

Other series on Beta’s slate include big-budget Norwegian series Atlantic Crossing, starring Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) and Sofia Helin (The Bridge). Cinenord Drama produces for NRK in coproduction with Beta Film.

The third season of crime series Babylon Berlin is also being taken to Cannes by Beta, along with the fourth run of hit Italian mafia drama Gomorrah.
