FEG picks up sales rights to Aussie docusoap Billion Dollar Playground from Foxtel

Alison Hurbert-Burns and Ben Davies

LA SCREENINGS: Fox Entertainment Global (FEG) has acquired the worldwide tape and format rights to upcoming docusoap Billion Dollar Playground from Foxtel in Australia, marking its first third-party series distribution agreement.

Set to premiere in Australia on pay TV operator Foxtel’s streaming platform Binge this summer, the series is set in the world of opulent homestays through the eyes of the global staff at Luxico, Australia’s luxury hospitality and concierge provider.

The format was created by observational documentary specialist Ronde Media (Outback Ringer, Big Miracles, Bondi Rescue) and was announced at Mipcom last year following a deal between Ronde founder Ben Davies and executive director of Binge Alison Hurbert-Burns.

FEG, Fox Entertainment’s international content sales unit, will distribute the 8×60′ series to networks and platforms outside Australia, starting this week at the LA Screenings. The company will also represent international format rights to the programme.

David Smyth

David Smyth, executive VP of content sales and partnerships at FEG, said: “Billion Dollar Playground delivers everything docusoap fans desire: drama, intrigue, romance and exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the ultra-high-end lifestyle of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world.”

Davies added: “Audiences will love the upstairs-downstairs world of Billion Dollar Playground – the demanding guests and the strained house staff. After all, what job could be more difficult than keeping rich people happy?”

The series is produced by Ronde Media and executive produced by Davies and David Emery, with Bethan Briegel-Jones serving as co-executive producer and Anita Brown as post executive producer.
