Joint venture Picture Perfect Federation will focus on developing premium television series for the multiplatform US market and will also pursue international coproductions.

Wachsberger, who was most recently co-chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Federation head of US television Ashley Stern will lead the new venture, which will be based in LA.

As co-chairman at Lionsgate, Wachsberger steered all aspects of the studio’s feature film acquisition, production and distribution and led the company’s global movie business.

Under his leadership, Lionsgate’s feature film slate generated nearly US$10bn at the global box office over the past five years, through hit titles such as La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge and franchises The Hunger Games and John Wick.

France-, US- and Rome-based Federation is one of Europe’s leading indies and has been involved with a number of high-profile productions, including Netflix original Marseille, French detective series The Bureau (Le Bureau des Légendes) and Israeli thriller Hostages.

“Patrick Wachsberger has long been a game-changer in the market. And we at Federation have also intensely ‘disrupted’ the status quo by attracting and associating the best European talent to our independent studio,” said Federation founder and CEO Pascal Breton.

“The stage is now set for Federation and Patrick Wachsberger to build a major worldwide independent studio which strives to change the game and allow top US and European creative television talent to take control of their own product and success on the global market.”
