Facebook orders Zeta-Jones comedy

Catherine Zeta-Jones at Mipcom last year

Facebook has made a 10-episode straight-to-series order for a dark comedy that will star Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Queen America is being produced by Wiip, which was launched by ex-ABC exec Paul Lee, and fellow US-based firm Made Up Stories.

Meaghan Oppenheimer (Fear the Walking Dead) created the show and is attached as writer. She is also among the exec producers, alongside Made Up Stories’ founder Bruce Papandrea and Casey Haver.

Queen America, which follows a ruthless beauty pageant coach living in Oklahoma, will premiere on Facebook Watch. The service’s slate already includes Sorry for Your Loss, starring Elisabeth Olsen, and Sacred Lies from US producer Blumhouse Television.

It also has stunt show Fly Guys on the slate, alongside reality series Bear Grylls: Face the Wild.

Last month it commissioned talkshow Breakthrough from ITV America-owned Leftfield Pictures and music mogul Scooter Braun’s SB Projects.
