Fabrik sews up Swedish book deal

US prodco Fabrik Entertainment has picked up the television rights to Swedish novel Patrioterna (The Patriots).

The debut novel from Swedish journalist-turned-author Pascal Engman is a thriller focusing on a terrorist cell that targets leading journalists from Sweden’s major newspapers.

Red Arrow Studios-owned Fabrik has acquired the rights to produce a series based on the book, which was published by Sweden’s Piratförlaget in August 2017. Fabrik CEO Henrik Bastin said that, as a Swede living in the US, he could “immediately see the appeal of the book.”

Engman added: “When I started writing the novel, I didn’t even have a publisher. Now I’m working with one of the most prestigious production companies in the industry. It feels unreal.”

The acquisition comes two months after Amazon announced it had renewed Fabrik’s hit detective original series Bosch for a fifth season. The series, which is a key Amazon original, is based on crime writer Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels about a homicide detective.
