Ex-C4, Endemol execs launch LadBible studio

LadBible’s The Gap

Youth-focused social media publisher LadBible Group has launched a UK-based content studio headed by former Channel 4 and Endemol executives.

Thom Gulseven, strategy director, and Ben Powell-Jones, head of programming, helped found LadStudios, which aims to produce original formats and digital platform first content for both UK and international broadcasters.

Gulseven joined the Manchester-headquartered group in November, while Powell-Jones has been in his role for nearly three years.

Previously, Gulseven worked at Channel 4 for nearly a decade, working his way up from senior producer to head of digital content strategy.

Powell-Jones joined LadBible from Endemol Shine, where he was global development executive. Before that, he was head of creative at Good Catch Games and worked as an assistant producer for companies including the BBC.

LadStudios will build on LadBible Group’s experimentation and testing of social-first shows released in the past 18 months, such as The Gap, Agree To Disagree and Minutes, with commissions such as Text Dating on Facebook Watch.

Powell-Jones said: “One of the huge benefits of working within a digital publishing group is that we are one huge team that are able to test, iterate, discard or boost ideas as we go. Rather than have key experts, we have instead initiated a process over the last year that has allowed us to take more calculated risks to grow our long-running hits and make a real impact in this space.”
