Ex-BBCS, All3Media exec Janel Downing joins AI localisation firm Camb.ai

Former BBC Studios (BBCS) and All3Media International exec Janel Downing has joined Dubai-based artificial intelligence (AI) content localisation company Camb.ai as director of sales and business development for the Americas.

Camb.ai specialises in AI-powered translation and content localisation, with a real-time platform designed for media companies and content creators to translate and localise programming.

According to the company, it can “capture and transfer voice modulations and speech nuances allowing for a complete performance transfer of any piece of content.”

In her new role, Downing will spearhead business development initiatives, engaging with producers, media companies, distributors and other key sectors.

Downing worked at BBCS in the US for two periods, the first time between 2006 and 2009 when she was a content sales executive for the company, then known as BBC Worldwide.

The second period was from 2011 to 2017, first as a content sales manager and then as director of formats and coproductions. Downing’s sales and licensing credits include Dancing with the Stars, Top Gear and Bake Off.

From 2017 to 2022, Downing was VP of sales for Latin America at All3Media International. More recently she has served as sales and acquisitions consultant at GRB Studios while also holding a sales and acquisitions role at TGC Global Entertainment from 2023 to 2024.
