The new company, Joy Coalition, will make content that centres on “key social topics in partnership with policy experts and leading philanthropic organisations from development through release.”

The LA company’s first appointments are Alyssa Raimann, director of development, and Reid Hensen, coordinator.

Joy Coalition’s development slate (outside of its deal with Fifth Season) includes a new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie for Paramount TV Studios and Anonymous Content Studio. Also in the works is a project called Life Is Strange, based on the video game of the same name, with collaborators including Shawn Mendes, Legendary Television and Anonymous Content Studio.

The multi-year first-look deal with Fifth Season covers scripted and unscripted TV and film. While no projects have been announced yet under the deal, the companies said they will “release projects that authentically incorporate social impact initiatives and value inclusion and equity.”

During her time at Anonymous Content, Gorman Wettels worked on projects such as 13 Reasons Why (Netflix), Home Before Dark (Apple TV+) and Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground (HBO Max).

“Joy is a brilliant producer and a thoughtful, authentic changemaker,” said Fifth Season’s executive VP of TV development and production Joe Hipps and senior VP of development and production Tamara Rothenberg in a joint statement.

“Her work drives important conversations on a massive scale. We are beyond thrilled for Joy to join Fifth Season and to partner with her to tell authentic, popular stories that engage and entertain millions impacting society.”

“The next generation is changing the world and driving us to action,” added Gorman Wettels.

“They’re a crucial demographic for streamers and studios, because when they are seen, heard and activated, they bring all generations of viewers along with them. I am beyond grateful to partner with Fifth Season, a studio with impeccable taste, values and culture who immediately understood and championed my vision for Joy Coalition. They know that global audiences crave purposeful content and real engagement and they have built a world-class studio that supports that work.”
