Fremantle’s UK action thriller Nightsleeper set to stop off at 147 markets

Nightsleeper premiered on the UK’s BBC1 and BBC iPlayer in September

MIPCOM: British action thriller Nightsleeper has sold to 147 markets with interest spreading to more countries, according to its global sales distributors Fremantle.

The six-part series, which first premiered on the UK’s BBC1 and BBC iPlayer in mid-September and centres on a sleeper train from Glasgow to London that has been hacked, and the race against time while government security forces try to intervene as events rapidly escalate onboard.

Nightsleeper has already premiered in both France on TF1 and in Australia on Stan.

The series has now been licensed to a further 15 countries across Europe, including: VRT in Belgium, NPO in the Netherlands, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark; SVT (Sweden); YLE in Finland; RUV in Iceland; RTS (Switzerland); LTV in Latvia; Canais TVCine – NOS in Portugal; Movistar Plus+ in Spain; HRT in Croatia; Cosmote TV in Greece; CyBC in Cyprus; and HOT, Cellcom and Yes in Israel. It has also sold to M-Net for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Nightsleeper is produced by Fremantle-owned Euston Films, created and written by BAFTA award-winning Nick Leather (The Control Room), with Laura Grace for episodes four and five. It stars Alexandra Roach (The Light in the Hall) and Joe Cole (Gangs of London, Peaky Blinders).

Leather also exec-produced alongside Kate Harwood and Jamie Magnus Stone, and Gaynor Holmes for the BBC. It was directed by Jamie Magnus Stone (Dr Who) and John Hayes (Dublin Murders), produced by is Jonathan Curling (The Sister, Baghdad Central) and coproduced by Daisy Costello.

Elsewhere here in Cannes, Fremantle has secured global distribution rights to feature documentary My Life As Roger Moore.

The film offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the actor who redefined the role of James Bond.

It is produced by Whynow Studios (Coco Chanel Unbuttoned), and is due to air on BBC Two and iPlayer later this year.

As well as his role as James Bond, the documentary looks at Moore’s life as an A-List star on and off the screen, including his knighthood for his role as UNICEF ambassador.

My Life As Roger Moore was made in collaboration with Moore’s estate and family, with unprecedented access to never-before-seen personal archives, including letters and home movies, plus exclusive interviews with Moore’s three children, Geoffrey, Deborah and Christian, and friends, colleagues and co-stars.
