Euro nets pick up D360 fact ent, docs

WW2 Treasure Hunters has been acquired by First HDTV and Alchimie

European broadcasters and platforms including France’s M6 and Italy’s Rai 5 have acquired factual entertainment and documentary programming from Canada-based sales house Distribution360.

M6 has licensed There’s Something You Should Know (6×30’), a dating show in which suitors choose matches from telephone conversations, only for the other person to reveal a physical disability ahead of their meeting.

Also in France, Planete+ has acquired Red Arrows: Inside the Bubble, a 1×60’ doc with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the iconic RAF aerobatic display team, while Arte has picked up Into the Arctic: Awakening (1×60’), featuring artist and explorer Cory Trépanier as he journeys into some of Canada’s most spectacular wilderness landscapes.

Rai 5, meanwhile, has acquired seasons two and three of Tales By Light, a 12×60’ series following some of the world’s most respected photographers as they push their craft to the limits and capture different cultures, wildlife and landscapes with unique perspectives.

In Germany, Welt24 has licensed true crime title Sex, Fame & Murder, a one-hour documentary about the life of fame-hungry and notorious Canadian Luka Magnotta, who committed a gruesome murder and then went on the run, sparking an international manhunt.

In Eastern Europe, Kontent has acquired 10×30’ fact ent series Vedettes à Poils (Furry Stars) for Russia, the Baltics and CIS. The show shines a spotlight on championship dogs and their passionate owners as they compete in prestigious competitions.

Also in the region, First HDTV has licensed three factual titles for Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Ukraine and CIS. These comprise two seasons of science show Tomorrow’s World Today (24×30’), Britain’s Ultimate Pilots: Inside The RAF (4×60’) and S1 of WW2 Treasure Hunters (8×60’), which looks to reveal forgotten war stories by finding long-buried artifacts.

European OTT platform and thematic channel distributor Alchimie has also acquired Vedettes à Poils, Britain’s Ultimate Pilots and S1 of WW2 Treasure Hunters.

Additionally, Alchimie has picked up 8×30’ series Pilotes de Demain (Pilots of Tomorrow) and Murder by Shark: The Birkenhead Disaster, a 1×60’ doc exploring a shipwreck off the west coast of Africa which saw three tonnes of gold vanish mysteriously and the deaths of 436 people, many of whom were eaten by sharks.
