Euro, Aussie broadcasters reaffirm their commitment to Married At First Sight

S6 of Married At First Sight UK has been picked up in multiple territories

Multiple international broadcasters have renewed their versions of dating format Married At First Sight, with others picking up the show for the first time.

The show matches couples who marry as soon as they meet and spend the following weeks working on their relationship to discover how strong a bond marriage really is. The format was originally commissioned by Danish pubcaster DR.

France’s M6 has recommissioned its own version for a sixth season from local prodco Studio89 and taken season four of RTL’s French-language Belgian adaptation for its Teva channel.

In the Netherlands, RTL has recommissioned the format for a seventh run and also picked up S8 of the Australian version and S1 of the Aussie reunion specials. Additionally, RTL has taken S12 of the US version, S6 of the UK show and S1-3 of the Australian adaptation for its SVoD service Videoland.

Greece’s Antenna TV has commissioned a local version to be made by its own Antenna Studios, while Planet TV in Slovenia has also ordered a local show, taking the total number of international adaptations to 31.

New seasons of existing shows have also been commissioned, including Australia’s Nine Network ordering S9 to be produced by Endemol Shine; RTL has lined up S5for French-speaking Belgium; DPG Media is planning S7 for Flemish-speaking Belgium; and TVN in Poland has ordered S6-7.

In addition to airing an eighth season of its local version, Sat.1 in Germany has also commissioned five episodes of a new spin-off from local producer Redseven Entertainment titled Married at First Sight International, which pulls together highlights from international adaptations of the format.

In a further deal, Germany’s Seven.One Entertainment Group has taken S5-6 of the UK show and S4 and S7 of the Australian version for its Sixx channel and streaming platform Joyn.

Further tape sales include DPG Media taking S8 of Married at First Sight Australia, plus the reunion specials, for Flemish-Belgium and S6 of the UK and Dutch versions.

Portuguese channels operator SIC has taken S10-12 of the US version and S8 of the Australian show, while MTV Oy in Finland has licensed S6 of the US show and S3 of the UK version. In Sweden, pubcaster SVT has picked up S12-13 of the US adaptation and TV4 has acquired S7 of the Aussie version and S6 of the UK show.

Additionally, the format’s original commissioning broadcaster, DR, has acquired S12 of the US tapes, plus spin-off Married at First Sight Unmatchables; and New Zealand broadcaster Three has taken S6 of the UK show.
