Espresso Media lands int’l sales rights to space doc Destination: Proxima Centauri

Two-part futuristic science doc Destination: Proxima Centauri

UK-based distributor Espresso Media International has picked up worldwide sales rights to the two-part futuristic science doc Destination: Proxima Centauri.

The project, set in the year 2175, is a coproduction between Spain’s Somadrome and France’s Morgane Productions, with France Télévisions and TVE (Spain) attached as co-broadcasters. SVT (Sweden) and Canal Odisea-AMC Networks Southern Europe are also on board.

Directed by Ruth Chao, the doc examines the prospect of a “nuclear-fusion-propelled, AI-controlled spaceship carrying 100 hibernated passengers on humanity’s first crewed voyage beyond the solar system.” Their destination is Proxima b, an earth-like exoplanet where those passengers will awaken to establish the first human settlement on another world.

The project is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2027, with Espresso Media International set to kick off international sales this month.
