ER becomes Classic Media

The former UK and US arms of Entertainment Rights are to operate under the name Classic Media, the company confirmed today.

The news follows the acquisition of the subsidiaries, Classic Media and Big Idea, by US IP firm Boomerang Media and private equity group GTCR last month. Veggie Tales producer Big Idea will operate under its own name.

Boomerang Media is managed by Eric Ellenbogen and John Engelman, founders of Classic Media.

The acquisition of ER’s properties last month, including He-Man, Casper The Friendly Ghost and Postman Pat, is the first major transaction for Boomerang. In partnership with GTCR, it plans to invest US$200m in equity capital in ER’s franchises.

“Classic Media is a leader in reinventing the classics of yesterday and creating the entertainment classics of tomorrow. As one entity, the company will benefit from the combined resources of proven creative talent and business expertise,” Boomerang said in a statement today.

Classic Media said it will be at Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas this June showcasing new properties Tinga Tinga Tales and Guess with Jess.
