eOne watches Sunrise

Entertainment One (eOne) has secured a TV development deal with US prodco Sunrise Pictures to co-finance and develop pilot scripts for cable.

The link-up, under the new banner Sunrise TV, follows eOne signing a first-look deal with production and management firm The Cartel last week.

That agreement will bring a network of showrunners into the transatlantic studio’s stable, while the agreement with Sunrise will see the two companies focus on one-hour dramas for cable. eOne will produce and handle worldwide distribution.

Sunrise Pictures is the independent production and financing company behind films including The Whistleblower, the upcoming The Trials of Cate McCall and There’s Always Woodstock.

The company is also preparing to shoot a reality series following the life and career of singer/songwriter and actress Maria Conchita Alonso. The show will be targeted to the Latin market.

Sunrise Pictures’ television projects will now be produced under Sunrise TV, with Joe Dain, head of production at Sunrise Pictures, acting as executive producer alongside the latter company’s CEO Peter Schafer and head of development Jim Klock.

“This new venture supports eOne’s commitment to dramatic programming, like The Walking Dead and Haven, and we’re looking forward to expanding our portfolio with more compelling content for US and global audiences,” said John Morayniss, CEO of eOne Television.

eOne has previously enjoyed success with Hell On Wheels for AMC and Rookie Blue for ABC. It is currently working on Discovery’s first scripted miniseries, Klondike.
