eOne, Atmosphere crown King David

Canada’s Entertainment One (eOne) has partnered with Atmosphere Entertainment to develop and produce a new Bible-inspired drama series.

King David has been written by Patrick Moss and Jeremy Anderson, the duo behind US broadcaster ABC’s Legacy, and follows the story of the biblical character who is driven to make decisions that turn his family against him.

It will be exec produced by eOne’s John Morayniss (Klondike, Haven) and Michael Rosenberg (Klondike, Hung), and Atmosphere’s Mark Canton (Power, 300).

“The series will expose the complex humanity of one of history’s greatest icons, and deliver gripping drama with colossal stakes,” said Rosenberg. “We have found great partners in Mark and his team at Atmosphere to produce a larger-than-life show with themes and stories that will captivate audiences.”

eOne will handle worldwide distribution for the series. No broadcaster is yet attached.

eOne is also partnering with Sundance Channel to co-develop Israeli drama Reaching for Heaven, according to Deadline. The US version will be written by Mike Seid and will explore how family life changes when a parent becomes religious. The Israeli show originally ran on Keshet.

In related news, Charlotte Mickie, eOne Films International’s exec VP who looked after acquisitions and marketing, will leave the firm in January.
