Entwistle to be acting BBC Vision boss

George Entwistle, commissioning controller at the BBC’s factual division Knowledge, is to replace BBC Vision director Jana Bennett in an acting capacity after she moves on in the New Year.

Entwistle, a former editor of current affairs show Newsnight, is one of a number of BBC execs being tipped to succeed Bennett full time in the role, which involves ultimately overseeing the UK public broadcaster’s channels.

Other names thought to be in the frame include BBC North director Peter Salmon and the BBC’s director of archive content Roly Keating. It is unclear as yet whether Entwistle will continue to oversee Knowledge while taking the reins at Vision.

He will take up the post on January 31, with Bennett taking on the new role of BBC Worldwide president of worldwide networks and global iPlayer on February 7.
