Mexican producer Jerry Rodríguez, senior VP and head of scripted at Endemol Shine Boomdog, has confirmed he is leaving the Banijay Americas’ production company after four years.

Rodríguez will, however, continue collaborating with Endemol Shine Boomdog as showrunner for the second season of HBO Max series Like Water for Chocolate.

The adaptation of Laura Esquivel’s iconic magical realist novel, coproduced with Endemol Shine North America and Salma Hayek’s production company Ventanarosa Productions, is one of the most ambitious Mexican productions for the Warner Bros Discovery platform.

“After almost four incredible years, I’ve concluded my tenure as head of fiction at Endemol Shine Boomdog and I’m excited to explore new challenges and future creative and business opportunities,” Rodríguez said on his LinkedIn profile.

His departure comes amid several strategic moves at Banijay Americas, especially in the realm of fiction.

At C21’s Content Americas, the company announced the launch of A Fábrica Mexico & US, the result of combining the fiction divisions of Mexico’s Endemol Shine Boomdog and Brazil’s A Fábrica. Rodríguez remained the head of operations for the new studio, reporting to Luiz Noronha of A Fábrica.

And last week, it was revealed Endemol Shine Boomdog and Banijay Entertainment had partnered with acclaimed Venezuelan screenwriter and producer Leonardo Padrón to launch drama label Leonardo Padrón Productions.

Rodríguez has over 25 years of experience as a fiction producer and showrunner. During his time at Endemol Shine Boomdog, he was showrunner of ViX series Volver a Cajar and the aforementioned Like Water For Chocolate, which has become one of HBO Max’s most-watched Latin American series.

Before joining Endemol Shine Boomdog, Rodríguez worked for more than 20 years at renowned Mexican production company Argos, where his last position was chief content officer.

“I also want to thank all the wonderful people with whom I’ve had the privilege of working over the years. It’s been a great honour to work shoulder to shoulder with so much talent and passion. I know we’ll soon be back together on new adventures,” Rodríguez said.
