Mexico City-based prodco Endemol Shine Boomdog is partnering with La Jaula Studios on a six-part documentary series focused on mixed martial arts (MMA).

The companies have entered into a development agreement for a project following the New York-based MMA promotion Combate Global, which is known for its one-night, eight-fighter elimination tournament, Copa Combate.

The series will follow the eight competitors through the highs and lows of their training and their personal lives on the road to the biggest opportunity of their careers.

The Copa Combate tournament debuted in 2017, with five iterations of the elimination event taking place since then, crowning champions from Mexico, the US, Peru and Ireland.

La Jaula Studios is the content division of Combate Global and has previously produced projects including Unfightable, about a transgender woman who competes in MMA. Campbell McLaren, who is a co-creator of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is the CEO of Combate Global and La Jaula Studios.

“This partnership marks a significant step for Endemol Shine Boomdog in sports production, an area we aim to expand further into, in line with Banijay Entertainment’s wider ambitions to supercharge efforts in this genre,” said Alejandro Rincon, CEO of Endemol Shine Boomdog, which is part of Banijay Americas.
