The news comes as Rubin’s documentary on Paul McCartney titled McCartney, 3, 2, 1 is released today on US streamer Hulu.

The deal will see Rubin get support from Endeavor-owned prodco Film 45, which it acquired in 2019. His studio will receive development funds, executives and infrastructure from the producer. The development will be led by Leila Mattimore.

Rubin is best known for founding Def Jam Records and bringing US hip hop to the mainstream with artists like Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and Run DMC. More recently he has produced for Kanye West, Ed Sheeran and The Strokes.

New series McCartney, 3, 2, 1 explores the Beatle’s youth in Liverpool, his rise to fame and his career from The Beatles to Wings to going solo. The series is produced by Film 45 and distributed by Endeavor.

Matt Goldberg, president of Film 45 said: “Iconic and legendary are two words that define Rick Rubin’s career, and we’re excited to collaborate with him in this partnership to share his exceptional point of view.”
