Emerson takes Cineflix reins

Ex-Entertainment One (eOne) sales boss Peter Emerson has taken a minority stake in Cineflix Media and will become president of the Canadian producer and distributor.

Emerson, the former president of eOne Television International, is teaming up with executive management to lead Cineflix Media’s growth initiatives.

It comes as Cineflix secures new financing with leading US banks that will include a senior operating line, plus funding for acquisitions and content partnerships to drive growth.

Based in Toronto, Emerson will report to Cineflix Media co-founders and co-CEOs Glen Salzman and Katherine Buck, who said in a statement: “We are delighted Peter is coming on board. He brings a wealth of experience, industry relationships and entrepreneurial vision that complement Cineflix’s growth strategy.”

Chris Bonney continues as CEO of the firm’s distribution operation Cineflix Rights, based in London, and Charles Tremayne as president of Cineflix Productions. Both continue to report to Glen Salzman.

Cineflix produces unscripted shows including American Pickers, Property Brothers and Mayday. The firm has been ramping up its scripted activity with the recent hire of Brett Burlock as senior VP of scripted.

Emerson, who will be at Mipcom in Cannes next week in his new role, left eOne in 2014 when former Sony Pictures Television and MGM sales boss Stuart Baxter came in to take over distribution.
