Electric Entertainment unveils new free streaming service ElectricNOW Originals

Christian Kane stars in Almost Paradise

MIPCOM: LA-based production and distribution company Electric Entertainment has unveiled a new free streaming service ElectricNOW Originals, along with its first titles for the new service.

ElectricNOW Originals will be available on ElectricNOW, the company’s existing OTT app and FAST channel, which offers viewers a library of 3,000-plus hours of own-produced and acquired free movies and TV shows.

Originals currently lined up for the new service include 3D animated sci-fi comedy Sloane and The Cosmic Schlep; and edgy eight-part half-hour comedy series The Poly Couple.

Dean Devlin, CEO of Electric Entertainment, who announced the move, said: “Adding original programming is the next logical step for growth at ElectricNOW. We have successfully cultivated a loyal and expanding fan base and are committed to bringing them more unique and original shows.”

Eight-part Sloane and The Cosmic Schlep centres on a restless young woman who leaves her home on Earth to find adventure, romance, new friends, and a job as an interplanetary taxi driver for a slew of unruly aliens.

It will be executive produced by Devlin, Marc Roskin, and Rachel-Olschan Wilson for Electric Entertainment; Derek Frederickson for Twisted Media; Scott Elias and produced by Anna Elias.

The second title The Poly Couple builds on an already successful social media series, which has amassed more than one million followers across socials and 500 million views.

Created by Dana Hobson and Daniel Wolf, and inspired by the true events of their real-life daily experiences as a modern polyamorous couple, the duo are collaborating with Electric Entertainment to create eight half-hour episodes. The single camera comedy will be available in the first quarter 2025.

Electric has worldwide rights to both original series, which it is licensing here at Mipcom.

In related market news, Electric Entertainment’s high-octane crime drama Almost Paradise has sold to multiple territories. Buyers include Talpa TV taking free TV rights in the Netherlands; WAKO Japan for VoD and TV rights; Eleven Entertainment in Korea for Pay TV and VoD rights, and blue Entertainment for VoD in French speaking Switzerland.

Starring Christian Kane, Almost Paradise follows a former US DEA agent who has been forced into early retirement and moves to a small tropical island in the Philippine Archipelago where he runs the gift shop for a luxury resort on the island, which sometimes attracts an international criminal elite.

In a nod to Devlin’s own Filipino heritage, Almost Paradise is also the first TV series to film an entire season in the Philippines, with an all-Filipino crew.

The series is available in two seasons (20×60’) and is currently streaming on Amazon’s Freevee in the US.
