Elastic rebounds with Mama Mirabelle

Spanish distributor Elastic Rights has sold preschool toon Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies into Greece for a second time.

The 26×30′ show was set to premiere on Alter Channel in Greece. However, the deal collapsed when the channel filed for bankruptcy seven months ago, so the toon never aired. Alter is currently embroiled in controversy after allegedly failing to pay its staff since February last year.

Instead, Greek pubcaster ERT will begin broadcasting Mama Mirabelle later this year. The deal means Elastic has now sold the educational toon to broadcasters in all five of the territories in which it has offices: Spain (Boomerang), Portugal (RTP), Turkey (Cartoon Network) and Italy (Playhouse Disney and Rai 2).

The series is coproduced by CBeebies, National Geographic Kids Entertainment and UK-based King Rollo Films. It mixes animation, live-action and archive footage from the BBC and Nat Geo.

Meanwhile, Elastic has acquired licensing rights in Portugal to Lisbon-based production house Dialectus’ property No Mundo da Lua (Lua’s World).

The property currently consists of two short musical clips entitled Wake Up and Go to Bed. The latter has been closing Portuguese pubcaster RTP2’s children’s programming block since December 2011, while Wake Up will greet viewers of RTP2’s kids content from May 2012. Elastic hopes that No Mundo da Lua will eventually be developed into a TV series.
