The project was originally commissioned for streaming service CBS All Access in 2019 and was then unveiled as part of the originals slate for ViacomCBS-owned streamer Paramount+ when it launched last year.

The series, produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Timberman/Beverly, will now switch to ViacomCBS-owned linear network Showtime.

Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet are writing and executive producing the series which will go into production in London later this year.

Based on the Walter Tevis novel of the same name and the 1976 film starring David Bowie, The Man Who Fell To Earth will follow a new alien character who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine our future.
