MIPTV: Stockholm-based distributor Eccho Rights has acquired distribution rights for Behind the Veil, a new Turkish drama series from broadcaster Kanal 7 and prodco Film Yapim Merkezi.

Currently airing twice a week in Turkey, the 55×45’ series marks the latest collaboration between Eccho Rights and Kanal 7 after the Night Train Media-owned distributor has sold the Albayrak Group-owned Turkish channel’s series Elif, The Promise, Legacy, Redemption and Winds of Love around the world for the past 10 years.

Behind the Veil, starring Talya Çelebi and Cenay Türksever, tells the story of a young woman who enters into a marriage of convenience with a wealthy bachelor in order to pay for the treatment her ill brother requires. Eccho Rights will unveil the series at MipTV in Cannes next week.

“To bring this new title to the market in partnership with Kanal 7 is an exciting step for us, having enjoyed such mutual success with their original productions over the past decade. Behind the Veil is another example of a commission that understands the demands of a global audience but brings a unique take on telling that classic, romantic story,” said Handan Özkubat, director of Turkish drama at Eccho Rights.

In related news, daily drama series Redemption has been renewed for a third season by Kanal 7. The series, produced by Karamel Yapim, has risen to become the top-rated show for the broadcaster after debuting in November 2022, according to Eccho Rights, which sells the show internationally.

So far Eccho has licensed Redemption across a string of Eastern European territories, including Romania, Bulgaria, Israel, Georgia, Bosnia Herzegovina (Hayat TV), North Macedonia (Kanal 5), Serbia and Montenegro.

Season one of Redemption ran to 207×45′ episodes, while season two is currently on air and in production until the summer, with a total of 273 episodes on order. The third season is set to premiere in September 2024, with 280 episodes commissioned.
