E! teases move into scripted with romcoms, orders unscripted for 2023

Chrisley Knows Best has been renewed

NBCUniversal-owned cablenet E! has expanded into the romantic comedy genre by greenlighting six original scripted movies alongside a host of unscripted shows for 2023.

The films will sit alongside the network’s current pop culture-centric unscripted programming.

E! said the as-yet-unannounced movies will put its “signature spin” on the romcom genre, with inclusive feel-good stories and characters that are reflective of today’s society.

Additionally, the network has confirmed details of multiple unscripted projects executive produced by the likes of Anthony Anderson, Stephen Curry, Joel McHale and Todd Chrisley.

As reported by C21 yesterday, the latter will front dating show Love Limo, in which single people put their dating life into the hands of the star of fellow E! series Growing Up Chrisley and Chrisley Knows Best, both of which have been renewed for new seasons.

Also ordered by E! for 2023 is Anthony Anderson & Mom: European Vacation (working title), which follows multiple Emmy nominee Anderson and his mother Doris on a six-week tour around Europe as they discover some of the continent’s wonders and experience a real, cultural vacation.

It is produced by UK- and US-based Avalon, with Jamie Isaacs, David Martin, Anderson, E. Brian Dobbins and Doris Bowman executive producing.

Black Pop (working title) is a multi-part, archive-rich series that looks at the black American dream through decades of pop culture, exploring how black Americans shaped US culture through film, television, music and comedy.

It is produced by NBC News Studios and Unanimous Media and exec produced by Stephen Curry, Erick Peyton, Melissa Haizlip and Reniqua Allen-Lamphere.

Celebrity Beef (w/t) sees Community star Joel McHale return to the network as host of a show in which two celebrities go head-to-head in a light-hearted cook-off. It is produced by the Content Group, with McHale, Rebecca Hertz, Steven Michaels, Jodi Flynn, James Macnab, Andi Walker Ochoa and Ariel Brozell exec producing.

Raising A F***ing Star comes from World of Wonder, producer of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and is a reboot of Bravo series Showbiz Moms & Dads, in which competitive parents look to promote their talented children. Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell, Darren Ward, Adam Karpel and Shannon Wilson exec produce.

These newly announced shows join E!’s unscripted slate, which includes Mathis Family Matters, Celebrity Game Face, Live From E! and If We’re Being Honest with Laverne Cox.
