DRG partners fledgling indies

UK distributor DRG has signed exclusive first-look deals with three drama indies in the territory.

DRG has invested in new start-up Three River Fiction (TRF), Hillbilly Films & Television and Runaway Fridge Productions.

TRF was recently founded by Jonathan Drake and Steve Maher to sit alongside established factual indie Impossible Factual within the Three River Studios group. The new indie will focus on creating original, high-end drama productions and popular returning series for UK and international broadcasters.

Under the deal, DRG will have first-look on all new drama content and will provide the fledgling indie with international coproduction expertise and global market support for TRF’s new developments.

DRG has also signed an exclusive two-year worldwide development contract with Hillbilly Films & Television, run by Kate Norrish and Polly Leys.

Hillbilly’s credits include singles Random (Channel 4) and Holy Flying Circus (BBC), and the company is now focusing on returning series and serials. DRG’s investment in the company will see it provide international distribution support for all Hillbilly’s titles, with a particular focus on scripted drama and comedy.

The distributor has also agreed a two-year development pact with film and television production company Runaway Fridge Productions, which was established by Stevie Lee, former head of development at Contagious Films, in 2006.

The focus of this agreement will be on building strong new writer relationships and working with the production company to realise development of projects.

Following investment in 2014, DRG is now part of the Nice Entertainment Group, the holding company for the production and distribution arm of Modern Times Group.
