Dr Who heads to Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime Video is to be the exclusive US streaming home for the modern version of BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who.

Under a pact with BBC Worldwide North America, the first eight seasons of Doctor Who, along with all holiday special episodes, will be available to Amazon Prime consumers from March 27.

Netflix and Hulu previously had classic and current seasons of the sci-fi series but their rights expired in February.

The ninth run of Doctor Who and its Christmas special – The Husbands of River Song – will be available later this fall. Season 10 will premiere in 2017.
