DR, SVT and NRK pre-buy doc on bombing of Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior

Rainbow Warrior was sunk in Auckland harbour in 1985

Scandinavian buyers DR in Denmark, SVT in Sweden and NRK in Norway have pre-bought feature documentary Rainbow Warrior about the sinking of the Greenpeace ship.

Lawrence Elman

Coproduced by UK-based Docsville Studios with Expanded Media, GNZ and EuropaCorp, the doc explores who was responsible for the 1985 bombing of the envirnmental group’s vessel in Auckland harbour in which one person was killed.

Investigators initially suspected terrorists but a trail of clues eventually led to the French foreign intelligence service.

Fremantle is handling international distribution for the 1×90’ doc, with further sales to a streamer and UK broadcaster to be announced soon.

Lawrence Elman, CEO of Docsville Studios, said: “While the casualties and geopolitical fall-out of the bombing are undoubtedly grave, behind this international diplomatic incident lies a story resembling a comedy spy parody – from bumbling secret agents to cult members, the sexual escapades of a playboy spy and brawls at sea.”

The executive producers are Lawrence Elman, Nick Fraser, Duncan Heath, Francis Hopkinson, Luc Besson, Virginie Besson-Silla, Steve Rabineau and Angela Neillis.
