Dplay rebrands as Discovery+ in UK

Discovery+ will include subscription and ad-funded catch-up services

Discovery UK is rebranding its streaming service dplay as Discovery+ in the UK and Ireland, alongside the launch of a subscription tier.

Launching next month, Discovery+ will aggregate content from Discovery UK’s pay TV brands Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, ID, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery History, as well as its free-to-air channels Quest, Really, Quest Red, HGTV, Food Network and DMAX.

The platform will comprise a subscription entertainment pass and an ad-funded catch-up service.

The entertainment pass includes live TV and 30-day catch-up for Discovery UK’s portfolio of premium brands and Discovery+ originals, with new launches every month.

It also includes early releases of hit network titles, box sets of iconic franchises with US same-day release and ‘superfan collections’ around key talent or core genres.

It will be available to all consumers in the UK at £4.99 a month or for a discounted annual fee of £29.99 for a limited period (standard price £49.99). In Ireland, it will be priced at €5.99 (US$7) a month or a discounted annual fee of €34.99 (standard price €59.99). Both markets will run a 14-day free trial.

Sky Q customers will be able to access the service for 12 months at no extra cost, following which they will be able to add it to their Sky bill.

The ad-funded service includes live TV and 30-day catch-up for Discovery’s free-to-air brands.
