LA-based Radicle Act will create content for all platforms and has kicked off with an exclusive first-look television deal with Industrial Media, the US outfit behind ABC’s American Idol.

Industrial Media was known as Core Media before rebranding last August. The prodco includes companies such as The Intellectual Property Corporation, 19 Entertainment, B-17 Entertainment, Thumb Candy and Sharp Entertainment.

Mika Pryce, a creative executive at Universal Pictures, will join Radicle Act as senior VP and head of development, having recently worked on the upcoming features Good Boys and The Photograph.

Prior to Universal, she worked at Warner Bros’ Langley Park Pictures, Lionsgate International and Evolution Media Capital.

On the film side, through Radicle Act, Cheadle has set up an adaptation of the book Amari & the Night Brothers with Universal Pictures, which he will produce alongside Mandeville and Genius Productions.

“With the advent of Radicle Act, we hope to live up to the namesake and seed the landscape, producing new and exciting material across multiple platforms,” said Cheadle, who is an executive producer of the recently renewed Showtime drama Black Monday, in which he also stars.

In 2015, Cheadle directed his first feature film, Miles Ahead, which he also co-wrote, produced and starred in. He has also featured in Showtime series House of Lies, which he also exec produced and directed.

Cheadle is set to star in Don’t Look Deeper, a sci-fi drama series for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’t shortform video platform Quibi. He has also appeared in Marvel movies including Avengers: Endgame, the Iron Man films and Captain America: Civil War.

Cheadle’s other film credits include The Guard, Crash, Traffic, Boogie Nights, Hotel Rwanda, Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

“Radicle Act will be a driver for us as we expand our efforts in scripted television and as we seek to support and collaborate with up-and-coming talent and new voices,” said Eli Holzman, CEO of Industrial Media.

The agreement marks the third deal Industrial Media has forged this year, following its partnerships with producers including Momentum Content and its CEO, Christina Douglas, and director and executive producer Matthew Galkin and his company Fairhaven Films.

Industrial Media is backed by the private equity firm Crestview Partners, BlackRock Asset Management and United Talent Agency. Cheadle is also represented by United Talent Agency.
