DLT adds BBC, Twofour alums

Transatlantic producer and distributor DLT Entertainment has appointed a senior executive from Twofour Broadcast and the former head of new comedy at the BBC to bolster its development team.

Darren Smith and Jack Cheshire have joined DLT on a part-time basis with a remit to drive the firm’s comedy production through the development of scripted and non-scripted content and format adaptation.

The duo, who will also develop new entertainment programming for UK and international broadcasters, will be based in London and report to DLT president, Don Taffner Junior.

Former Shine Group exec Smith joins DLT from Twofour Broadcast, where he was most recently head of entertainment and exec produced ITV’s primetime Saturday night format Splash. He also worked on Paddy McGuiness’ Show and Telly (ITV) and Sally Lindsay’s Christmas Presents (Sky 1) and was before that a commissioning editor of entertainment and comedy at Channel 4 in the UK.

Cheshire was tasked with raising the profile of budding comedians during his stint at the BBC, and has most recently been a freelance writer and producer. He also created and produced The Wrong Door for BBC3, as well as working on CBBC’s comedy Big Babies.

Taffner said the pair’s experience in comedy and entertainment would enable DLT to expand its original content.

“They both have an impressive list of credits to their name, having brought some of the UK’s most successful shows to the screen in recent years, and working with the best talent on and off screen,” he added.

The duo will join DLT’s UK production and development team, which includes John Bartlett, Margaret Enefer, Michaela Hennessey-Vass, Robert Katz and Rohan Acharya.

It’s the latest staff addition for DLT, which appointed Margaret Enefer as head of drama earlier this year. She has been charged with expanding the indie’s dramatic content through original series and adaptations.
