Disney’s Spanish pay channels Fox Life and Viajar cease broadcasting

This Is Us previously aired on Fox Life

The Walt Disney Company’s thematic pay channels Fox Life and Viajar have ceased broadcasting in Spain as the Mouse House concentrates on its streamer Disney+.

The two linear broadcast channels were available on services such as Movistar+ and Vodafone TV until the start of the new year.

Fox Life carried US fiction series and films aimed at female audiences and Viajar was dedicated to documentaries.

Series offered by Fox Life, which began broadcasting in 2014 to replace Fox Crime, can now be seen through different platforms.

For example, Grey’s Anatomy is now available on Disney+ and This Is Us is on Amazon Prime Video. Others, such as Blue Bloods and The Big Leap, can be viewed on Fox, one of the most watched themed pay channels in Spain, alongside shows such as The Walking Dead.

Viajar, launched in 1997 by Sogecable, was passed to Fox in 2011. Its documentary offering will be transferred to National Geographic, which belongs to Disney following its acquisition of Fox in 2019.

Disney closed a number of TV channels around the world as Disney+ has rolled out last year.

Disney Junior and Fox ceased broadcasting in Germany, Austria and Switzerland last September. In Spain, Disney Channel continues to broadcast on digital terrestrial TV.

Disney+ had more than 118 million subscribers worldwide as of November 2021.
