Disney takes another dive for treasure with Shipwreck Hunters Australia

Western Australia’s Treasure Coast is believed to be home to 1,600 shipwrecks

Disney+ has commissioned a second season of West Australian-based factual format Shipwreck Hunters Australia.

The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand, has greenlit a new six-part season following a team of ocean adventurers hunting for treasure along Western Australia’s ‘Treasure Coast,’ which is believed to be home to 1,600 shipwrecks.

Season two is a coproduction between VAM Media, Terra Australis Productions and Barking Mad Productions for Disney+.

Filming has commenced and will take place across several locations in the year ahead supported by production investment funding from Screen Australia, Screenwest, Lotterywest, and the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund and Tourism Western Australia.

The series will be directed and produced by VAM Media’s Brendan Hutchens (Shipwreck Hunters Australia, Drawn to Water, Walking Man), together with series producer Russell Vines (The Waler: Australia’s Great War Horse, Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley) and executive producer Steve Bibb (Shipwreck Hunters Australia, Inside the Sydney Opera House, Matildas: The World at Our Feet).
