Disney names Hunegs TV studios boss

The Walt Disney Company has appointed the former president of business and strategy at Warner Bros Television Group (WBTVG) to the role of president of Disney Television Studios.

Craig Hunegs

Craig Hunegs, who left Warner Bros at the end of 2018, will take on the role after the Mouse House’s US$71bn 21st Century Fox acquisition, which is expected to be finalised this month.

Hunegs will oversee all functions and areas of operation for Disney Television Studios, which includes ABC Studios, ABC Signature, Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios.

He will report to Dana Walden, who will take on the role of chairman of Disney Television Studios and ABC Entertainment once the 21st Century Fox acquisition is closed.

Reporting to Hunegs, once he takes up his new position, will be Patrick Moran, president of ABC Studios; Jonathan Davis and Howard Kurtzman, presidents of Twentieth Century Fox Television; and Bert Salke, president of Fox 21 Television Studios.

Hunegs most recently served as president, business and strategy at WBTVG and president of Warner Bros Digital Networks, where he was responsible for overall television group performance and for creating growth across Warner Bros’ television business. He was promoted to WBTVG president in May 2013.

He has been closely involved with shows such as Friends, ER, West Wing, The Big Bang Theory, The Bachelor, Ellen, Shameless, Queen Sugar, all the DC Comics series on The CW and the DC Universe app.

Hunegs was also the founding president of Warner Bros Digital Networks and led the rapid build-up of Warner Bros’ OTT services. Previously, he served as executive VP of WBTVG between 2006 and 2013.
