Disney Japan, Nippon TV enter local-language coproduction content agreement

Drama series The Files of Young Kindaichi

The Walt Disney Company in Japan and Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV have entered a partnership through which they will collaborate on coproducing local-language content.

Content will range from drama series to animation to variety shows for launch on Disney+ both in Japan and globally. Additionally, programming from both companies will become available on the pair’s respective platforms.

The latest edition of Nippon TV’s drama series The Files of Young Kindaichi will premiere on the Japanese channel from next month and, under the deal, will be made available on Disney+ globally thereafter. This marks the first time Nippon TV content will be available on Disney+.

Yoshikuni Sugiyama, representative director and president of Nippon Television Holdings, said: “Disney is a world leader in entertainment and a long-standing important partner for us. Over the years, we have worked together on many business initiatives, notably our broadcast of Disney titles on Friday Roadshow.

“I look forward to leveraging the creativity, vast reach and brand power that both companies possess to deliver Japan’s content to viewers the world over.”
