Disney, Eva Longoria team to adapt Carlos Hernandez young adult sci-fi novel

Sal & Gabi Break the Universe is based on the novel by Carlos Hernandez

Disney youth channels division Disney Branded Television has agreed a deal with actress and producer Eva Longoria and her prodco UnbeliEVAble Entertainment to develop a sci-fi comedy based on youth novel Sal & Gabi Break the Universe by Carlos Hernandez.

The 2019 book, published by Disney-Hyperion, is based in part on Cuban folk legends and sees protagonist Sal attempt to bring his dead mother back to life when messing with his father’s scientific experiments gives him the ability to move space and time.

Ayo Davis, Disney Branded Television’s executive VP of creative development and strategy, is handling development of the series. Also attached to the project are UnbeliEVAble president Ben Spector and writer/producer Nelson Soler (Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion, Pretty Little Liars).

The Disney Branded Television group feeds content to the Disney+ streaming platform and Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior linear networks.
