Alice’s Wonderland Bakery will debut in 2022 and follows the great-granddaughter of the original heroine, who is a budding young baker at an enchanted bakery.

Disney Television Animation has begun production on the show, which looks to celebrate the culture and creativity of food, highlight self-expression and impart age-appropriate social and emotional lessons about friendship, collaboration and community.

Chelsea Beyl (Doc McStuffins) serves as executive producer, while Frank Montagna (Elena of Avalor) is co-executive producer and art director, and Nathan Chew (Elena of Avalor) is supervising director. John Kavanaugh (Sofia the First) is the songwriter/music director and Matthew Margeson (Rocketman) serves as composer.

Joe D’Ambrosia, senior VP of original programming and general manager at Disney Junior, said: “Inspired by the sense of connection that food brings about – and recipes filled with enchantment and heart – the series will showcase whimsical stories with relatable themes for our Disney Junior audience.”

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll, was published in 1865 and is therefore in the public domain and has no copyright.

It has been adapted numerous times for the screen over the years, including by The Walt Disney Company, most famously as the 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland.
