Discovery’s Deadliest Catch gets first int’l adaptation with Rogers in Canada

The original Deadliest Catch debuted on Discovery Channel

Rogers Sports & Media (RSM) has greenlit the first international adaptation of Warner Bros Discovery-owned reality franchise Deadliest Catch.

RSM commissioned the new series, Deadliest Catch: Northern Edge (8×60’), for its Canadian specialty channel Discovery.

Northern Edge is produced by Canadian prodco Attraction and Fremantle-owned US prodco Original Productions in association with Discovery US.

Filming is underway in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and the North Atlantic, with the series scheduled to premiere on Discovery early next year.

The original American version of Deadliest Catch debuted on Discovery Channel in 2005. Produced by Original Productions, the series follows crab fishermen aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons.

The Canadian adaptation will follow Newfoundland and Nova Scotian fisherman as they navigate unforgiving environments and perilous challenges in the North Atlantic, home of the largest crab biomass in the world.

“Deadliest Catch: Northern Edge was developed through a deal negotiated by Fremantle Canada and reflects how the company is leveraging its global production expertise to create locally resonant content,” said Michela DiMondo, Fremantle’s executive VP distribution Canada, international.
