Discovery unveils Ultimate commission

Discovery Networks Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) has commissioned a new reality crime series to air simultaneously across 105 countries.

Ultimate Cops (6×44′) is the first pan-regional commission for Discovery Channel from the network’s CEEMEA arm. UK-based Atom Productions International will produce the series, which will premiere in April.

NATPE 2012The series, commissioned by Discovery Networks CEEMEA senior VP and head of channels Paul Welling plus his programming team, follows armed police tactical units in Russia, Romania and Poland as they fight crime in the cities of Moscow, Bucharest and Warsaw.

Welling said: “Not only is Ultimate Cops our first commission for Discovery Networks CEEMEA, it’s also the first series of its kind for this region of the world.

“Tough men and women taking on the challenges of daily police work and keeping the crime out of our homes is an exciting story, especially when you add in the context of former Soviet Union cities, that continue to evolve month by month.”

Executive producer is Victoria Noble for Discovery and the series was filmed by the same crew as Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survival including series producer Charlie Smith and cameraman Simon Reay.
