Discovery shuffles US network bosses

Discovery Communications has shuffled its US-based group presidents, adding new channels to their responsibilities.

Eileen O’Neill will take responsibility for Science Channel and Velocity, with both networks’ current general managers, Debbie Myers and Bob Scanlon respectively, reporting to her. She will also continue to oversee Discovery Channel.

O’Neill was previously group president of Discovery and TLC Networks and her responsibilities for the latter will now pass to Marjorie Kaplan, who previously oversaw Science and Velocity. Kaplan retains her Animal Planet remit.

TLC general manager Nancy Daniels will report to Kaplan, who has worked on shows including River Monsters, Whale Wars and Treehouse Masters for the wildlife-focused cable network.

Elsewhere, Henry Schleiff will add Discovery Fit & Health to his portfolio, which already includes Investigation Discovery, Destination America and the recently rebranded American Heroes Channel.

David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discovery Communications, said the reshuffle would enable the firm to “grow market share, produce world-class content and fuel our international growth for years to come.”
