Discovery+ orders crime doc offering fresh take on Anni Dewani murder

Factual streamer Discovery+ has commissioned a four-part true crime docuseries focusing on the murder of British honeymooner Anni Dewani in South Africa.

Anni: The Honeymoon Murder (working title) uses access to CCTV recordings and exclusive interviews with Dewani’s family, the lead investigators, the legal teams and others involved in the case.

The 4×60’ series will be available to stream on Discovery+ from November 13 and is produced by Banijay-owned Dragonfly.

In November 2010, British millionaire Shrien Dewani and his new Swedish wife Anni travelled to Cape Town for their honeymoon. The newly wed couple were hijacked at gunpoint during a taxi journey back to their hotel from dinner and the next morning the 28-year-old bride was found shot dead

The series was ordered by Discovery’s Clare Laycock, senior VP of planning and insights and head of entertainment at Discovery, commissioned by Charlotte Reid and executive produced by Matt Reid.

At Dragonfly, Toby Paton was the series director, Kate Scholefield the series producer and Tom Pullen and Richard Bond were executive producers.
