Discovery Italy reels in Sardine’s ToonMarty

ToonMarty was originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment

Discovery Networks in Italy has acquired a slapstick comedy produced by Montreal’s Sardine Productions and distributed by Barcelona-based GoldBee.

ToonMarty (40×11′) will launch on Discovery Italy’s free-to-air kids’ channel K2 this spring.

Meanwhile, DHX Media-owned digital kids’ network and studio WildBrain is set to launch and develop ToonMarty content on YouTube.

The series was commissioned by Corus Entertainment in Canada for its Teletoon French- and English-language networks and premiered on both last year.

Set in a town where all cartoons live, the series follows its only employee as he goes on adventures with the inhabitants.

The property has been supported by the Bell Fund, the Canadian Media Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, the Shaw Rocket Fund and the Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles.

Other broadcasters to have acquired the show include France Télévisions, ITV in the UK and Nickelodeon, which took it for its international channels and catch-up services around the world, excluding North America, China and Japan.
