Discovery adds Davies to Family

Discovery Communications has moved an executive from Discovery Networks International (DNI) to oversee production and development at its fledgling family channel in the US, previously called The Hub Network.

Experienced content creator Sarah Davies is now VP, production and development at Discovery Family Channel, which launched on October 13 after the media giant took control of The Hub.

Previously the US kids’ network, which is available in nearly 70 million US households, had been operated jointly by Discovery and toy giant Hasbro.

Hasbro has maintained a stake in the network, which continues to air Hasbro Studios children’s content during the daytime. Some shows are set to move off air, however, such as Transformers: Robots in Disguise, which is moving to Cartoon Network in the US.

Non-fiction shows aimed at families are shown on Discovery Family Channel during the evening, covering genres such as natural history, adventure, animals and science.

Davies, who was most recently VP of production and factual development at DNI, will report to Tom Cosgrove, general manager of Discovery Family Channel.

Davies has commissioned series including How We Invented the World, Deadly Islands, Breaking Magic, The Unexplained Files, Bear Grylls: Escape From Hell and Tethered.

Davies joined Discovery in March 2011 from the BBC, where she led the development of all factual content for BBC Wales.
