Denmark’s DR names Mikala Krogh as editor-in-chief of doc divisions

Mikala Krogh, director of documentary series Scandinavian Star, is taking charge of Danish pubcaster DR’s documentary divisions DR Dokumentar and P1 Dokumentar as editor-in-chief.

Mikala Krogh

Krogh has been the director of a number of internationally acclaimed and award-winning documentaries, having started her career as a studio host and producer at DR.

Taking up the new role in February, she joins from production company Danish Documentary, which she has co-owned since 2008. Eva Mulvad and Pernille Rose Grønkjær will run that company moving forwards.

DR Dokumentar and P1 Dokumentar are two independent editorial offices with a total of approximately 20 employees.

Krogh said: “DR Dokumentar has always been a strong brand both as a TV and podcast, but in a large media landscape with endless offers and increased competition for audience interest, it is important to strengthen and develop DR Dokumentar’s content and form and place it firmly in the Danes’ consciousness.”

Thomas Falbe, editor-in-chief of DR News, said Krogh would increase the documentary genre’s impact on DR’s digital platforms.

He added: “Mikala is one of the most established names in the Danish documentary film community, where she most recently, with the series Scandinavian Star, has helped to move both journalism and communication to new heights. She is therefore an obvious choice to step into the proud tradition that DR Dokumentar is the bearer of.

“DR has a very special obligation to cultivate documentary as a genre, develop new talents and elevate both investigative journalism and documentary reporting to a wide audience.”
