Dancing Ledge promotes Carey to MD

Fremantle-backed UK prodco Dancing Ledge Productions has promoted executive producer Chris Carey to managing director.

Carey joined the company last May and has since exec produced two new dramas for the BBC.

Three-part fact-based The Salisbury Poisonings centres on the Novichok poisoning incident in the UK city while crime drama The Responder stars Martin Freeman and was written by first-time television writer Tony Schumacher.

Dancing Ledge Productions works internationally with Fremantle, which has a minority stake in the company, with Fremantle handling global distribution for both dramas.

Carey will work alongside CEO Laurence Bowen, who launched the firm in 2016, to oversee the company’s growth as it continues to develop and produce TV and film projects for broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4, Sky, ITV and Film 4.

“We’re still at a very early stage in the Dancing Ledge story but Laurence and I are confident that both The Salisbury Poisonings and The Responder will be a good indication of what lies ahead. We’re working with some outstanding talent and have a terrific diverse development slate.”

In a 25-year career, Carey has produced and executive produced dramas and comedies such as BBC1’s adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, BBC1 psychological thriller Apple Tree Yard, the Abi Morgan-penned series River and Channel 4 miniseries Run.

Prior to this, he set up and ran independent production outfit The Welded Tandem Picture Co, which produced Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently for the BBC and This is Jinsy for Sky.

Dancing Ledge Productions has recently developed Netflix original Delhi Crime, was the UK producer on The New Pope and produced Porters for Dave/UKTV.

It is currently developing projects with Paulo Coelho, Mark Gatiss, Faith Soloway, Louise Doughty, Nathaniel Martello White, Joe Barton and Lauren Sequeira. It has also partnered with Lee Child on a drama series based on real-life stories of people risking their lives in the pursuit of justice.
