CW orders drama quartet

US broadcast network The CW in the US has picked up four new series, including one about a pregnant virgin, and renewed its dramas The 100, Beauty and the Beast and Hart of Dixie.

Jane the Virgin, based on a Venezuelan telenovela, centres on a hard-working, religious young Latina who is accidentally artificially inseminated.

It will debut on the network next season alongside The Flash, a drama about a police forensics investigator; iZombie, which follows a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in a coroner’s office; and supernatural drama The Messengers.

The Flash is produced by Warner Bros TV and DC Entertainment, while iZombie is made by Warner Bros TV. Jane the Virgin is produced by CBS Television Studios with Electus and The Messengers by CBS Television Studios.

The orders come after CW Seed, the network’s fledgling digital studio, earlier this week announced a string of its own pick-ups.
