CW calls Berlanti for Batwoman pilot

US broadcaster The CW has ordered a pilot for a drama about DC Comics’ character Batwoman that has The Vampire Diaries’ Caroline Dries attached as showrunner and Greg Berlanti exec producing.

Batwoman will star Ruby Rose and is believed to be the first superhero show whose lead character is a lesbian.

David Nutter (Game of Thrones) is also attached to the show, which was put into development over the summer. The story follows Rose’s character Kate Kane as she attempts to provide justice on the streets of Gotham City.

Dries is attached to write the Berlanti Productions pilot, which is The CW’s first of the season.

Berlanti is one of Hollywood’s most successful producers having been behind shows including Arrow and The Flash on The CW, God Friended Me on CBS and Netflix’s Chilling Adventure of Sabrina.
