Crackle rides again with Seinfeld

Sony’s online video service Crackle has renewed Jerry Seinfeld web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee for a sixth season.

The series, which debuted in the US in summer 2012, sees comedian Seinfeld drive a range of vintage cars with different comedians sitting alongside him.

The renewal came during Crackle’s presentation at the TCA press tour yesterday.

The web series, produced by Sony-owned prodco Embassy Row, is the company’s most-watched programme with almost 70 million streams. New episodes will air this spring.

Crackle also announced a sequel to the David Spade comedy feature Joe Dirt, Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, to air this summer. The sequel is the first ever made-for-digital sequel to a major motion picture.

Other original feature productions on Crackle will include spy thriller The Throwaways produced by The Combine, which premieres on January 30; and Dead Rising: Watchtower from Legendary Entertainment, which will be released on March 27.

Crackle also revealed a second screen experience app for Sports Jeopardy, the spin-off from Sony Pictures’ hit gameshow.

Crackle, which was shut down in the UK last year, is available in 21 countries including Australia, Canada and Latin American territories.
